Mike AlvaradoMike Alvarado (Source d'image: Getty )

Bellew-Chilemba, Mathews-Crolla: Deux match nul

The Fighter

Jim Braddock accepte. Ce combat va changer ses projets.

When we Were Kings

Delphine Persoon: bring on Erica Anabella Farias!

Former European, IBF and WIBF champion Delphine Persoon impressively knocked out Kremena Petkova in 2 rounds tonight in Gent, Belgium in a final WBC eliminator to earn the right to challenge WBC champion Erica Anabella Farias from Argentina. The Belgian female star is eager to get into the ring with the current title holder. Petkova was dropped for the full count near the end of the 2nd round with a vicious left to the body.
Ermano Fegatelli outpointed Karim Chakim. It was quite competitive in the first 5 rounds but once the local boy upted the pace in the last 3 rounds it was quite one-sided. It was scored 3 times 80-72. Fegatelli enters now the WBC World cup.
Shock defeat for “Sugar” Jackson Osei Bonsu when he was stopped in the 2nd round against French champion Frank Haroche Horta. Horta hurt Jackson early in the 2nd and he never recovered. When he was on unsteady legs moments later the referee saved Jackson from more punishment. This defeat probably put on hold his scheduled EBU-EU title defence against Nieto from Spain which was scheduled for May 31 in Antwerp on a open air show. Sugar Jackson, a former EBU champion, and his team will now have to sit down and reconsider about Jackson’s future in boxing.
Sasha Yengoyan once again showed that he is very limited in boxing skills but his punching power gets him the wins. This time he dropped Sergei Melis at the end of the 3th. Melis complained that the punch landed at the back of the head. The visitor from Estonia was dropped again at the end of the 5th and when he was down a 3rd time at the start of the 6th it was wisely waved off by the referee.
Local star Ismael Abdoul easily defeated former WBC Youth champion Tony Visic with 3 times 80-71. Visic was deducted a point for persistant holding.
Bilal Laggoune was very lucky to get a majority draw against Joel Tambwe Djeko. Laggoune and Abdoul are now probably fighting for WBC belts on June 29 in Ninove. Laggoune for WBC Youth and Abdoul will hopefully get another chance for the WBC Mediterranean title whom he hold before losing to Kiladze.
Tony Ingelrest warmed up for his Belgian titlefight against Dufaux when his last minute opponent Ivica Cukusic failed to come out for the 4th round.
Gian Carlo Liesdek WMD04 Carlos Torres Suarez. It was scored 38-38, 39-37 and 39-38 both for visitor Liesdek.
Promoter Claude Vandenheede announced his next 2 dates: August 23 in Ostend and Oct 11 again in Gent.

Tony Bellew vs. Isaac Chilemba: Fight Time, Date, Live Stream, TV Info and More

Tony Bellew (19-1, 12 KO) will certainly have the home-field advantage when he takes on Isaac Chilemba (20-1, 9 KO) from Malawi on Saturday night. Born in the United Kingdom, Bellew now resides in Liverpool, Merseyside, and that’s where he will battle Chilemba.

Bellew hopes to use this bout as a stepping stone to a world title shot.
He already holds the WBC Silver light heavyweight title, but he has his sights set on the winner of the Chad Dawson-Adonis Stevenson bout and the WBC light heavyweight title, per ESPN.
Chilemba is no easy win, though. He has shown tremendous toughness, and he is trying to ruin Bellew’s plans.
Here’s how you can see these two talented light heavyweights clash.

When: Saturday, March 30, at 4 p.m. EST
Where: Echo Arena in Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom
TV: Sky Sports in UK
Live Stream: WealthTV

Bellew likes the knockout. He has stopped 12 of the 19 opponents he has defeated, and he is clearly aiming to add another victim to his list in Chilemba.
The man from Malawi is known for his quickness, but Bellew is bent on getting to him. According to Gavin Glicksman of The SunBellew said this of Chilemba:
He can be as flash as he wants, he can be as fast as he wants, but at some point he’s going to have to fight. He can’t come to my city and expect to tap me and run away and get a 12-round decision win.
I’m going to smash away until there’s nothing left to smash. It’s as simple as that.
An impressive victory would only add to the appeal of a Bellew-Dawson/Stevenson clash.
The 30-year-old is obviously focused, but he must be careful not to look past Chilembain his efforts to go through him.

In the Ring
Bellew is a very hard puncher with one-shot KO power. Take a look at him eviscerating Danny McIntosh after a headbutt at the 7:10 mark of the video below.
HomeofBritishBoxing on YouTube
Though he does possess explosive power, he’s an underrated boxer.
He has a heavy jab that he uses to keep opponents honest. The snap behind it far exceeds what some might describe as a flicking jab, and he employs good footwork to change angles and set up combinations.
He doesn’t have fast hands, though.
In his lone loss to Nathan Cleverly, hand speed was the biggest factor. Against fighters with quick hands, he will generally be at a disadvantage.

The Book on Chilemba
Road Warrior
Box_chilemba2_576_originalimage from ESPN
Chilemba seems comfortable fighting in hostile environments. He fought popular South African IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen to a draw inKempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa.
When Brian Campbell of ESPN asked him what he gained from the experience he said:
You have to put up 10 times better than you're supposed to do. That's what that fight taught me, because I truly believe I won the fight. But I fought him in his backyard and I had, like, 10,000 fans against me.
This Bellew fight is the same, as I am fighting on his home ground, and I'm going to make sure I am, like, 10 points away from where he is. I'm not going to let the fight stay close where they can take it away from me or make it a draw.
On Saturday, he’ll be hoping to get a better result.

In the Ring
Chilemba is not a big puncher, but he is the superior athlete in this fight. He has displayed great heart in the past, having gotten off the canvas twice to defeat MaximVlasov in February of 2005.
Check out the events of this exciting eighth round. Chilemba works his way from the edge of a stoppage to a solid round, considering he was dropped twice.
The 25-year-old’s defense can be a bit shaky, but he has long arms. When he uses his jab he can be effective, but he keeps his hands uncomfortably low and holds his head too upright.
He’ll need to improve in this area to steer clear of Bellew’s power.

Prediction
Chilemba will try to move and use his speed and athleticism to out-point Bellew, but he’s ultimately going to get caught by a big shot.
He has a decent chin, but Bellew is too good of a puncher, and he will win by KO in the seventh round.

Follow me, because I love boxing and you do too.

The New Gatti vs. Ward? Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado Ready to Do It Again

Hi-res-154090582_crop_exact
Harry How/Getty Images
Sometimes a boxer will smile during the midst of battle. Usually it's false bravado, an ill-fated attempt to convince his opponent, and himself, that a particularly powerful punch didn't really do any harm. Almost always, the smile is a lie, a diversion meant to mask the pain.
The grin that crept onto Brandon Rios' face during the third round of his already legendary slugfest with Mike Alvarado last October was different—and a little bit contagious. There wasn't anything fake about the joy on his face. Rios was part of something special and truly in the moment.
It takes a certain amount of swagger to take another man's best shot and come up smiling—and firing back. Watching at home, you couldn't help feeling a little giddy too as the fight, expected to steal the show, lived up to expectations and then bowled them over.
It was a seven-round slugfest in a proverbial phone booth. Both men stood close enough to whisper sweet nothings as the punches whispered by their head or thudded into the body. It was a performance for the ages.
For Rios, it's more than a memory. It's 25 minutes that have become part of his routine.
"Even today I watched our match. I wake up in the morning and when I get back from my run I watch our fight. After I go to the gym, I watch it. Before I go to bed, I watch it. I am a fan of our fight and I am a fan of that fight," Rios said. "I was very amazed. It was like watching an Arturo Gatti - Micky Ward fight. I couldn’t believe we stood up to the big shots. We were both landing big shots going toe-to-toe in the middle of the ring. Like I said, I am a big fan of mine, and his, so it was awesome."
For Alvarado, it's an experience to remember but not to cherish. Though he's seen the fight since that fateful night last October, it's not something he needs to pull off theDVR to recall.
"I remember it like the back of my hand so I don’t have to go over it too much."
Rios, of course, earned the right to enjoy the night with his seventh-round stoppage. After six closely contested rounds, in three-minute stanzas that saw Rios do his best work with left hooks to the body and head, it was the right hand that rocked Alvarado and changed the course of the bout. Commentator Roy Jones believed it would have buckled a lesser man than Alvarado. He withstood it, but eventually referee Pat Russell stepped in to stop the bout.
The bout almost defies description, as words are inadequate to summarize the courage on display in the ring on October 13 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Typically an action fight of that caliber features two guys who eschew science in order to stand and bang, but Alvarado and Rios combined the best of both worlds. The efficiency and skill on display, and not just the warrior's heart, helped the fight transcend what might have otherwise been just another mindless brawl.
Though Alvarado's name was linked immediately after the fight to Ruslan Provodnikovand Rios was rumored to be a potential candidate to fight Manny Pacquiao, in the end, a rematch just made the most sense. The first fight served as an appetizer before a dreadfully dull fight between Nonito Donaire and Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka.
This time it's "Alvarado vs. Rios" on the marquee at the Mandalay Bay.
"I don’t usually like to do immediate rematches but this first fight was really so great. There was a demand for it to get done and the people at HBO came up with a financial package that was very appealing," promoter Bob Arum said. "Both fighters are getting considerable more than they got the first time. It’s the exception that proves the rule.
"Fans aren’t stupid. They want to see action. Mike Alvarado and Brandon Rios are action fighters. They don’t play around. They don’t dance around. They fight. That’s what the public wants to see."
Both fighters, too, are ready to lace them up and get right back in there—this time as the main event.
"It’s never too soon to do it again," Rios said. "Like I said, we are warriors and if you are a warrior, you want to fight again and again and again. It is never too soon. The first fight was great. I feel great and I’m ready for another battle. I am just ready to do it again. I am ready for another battle. Why wait? It is never too soon."
Hi-res-2070761_crop_exactGatti vs. Ward
Al Bello/Getty Images
The question now, for fans at least, is what kind of fight to expect. Comparisons have already been made to Micky Ward and ArturoGatti, who fought on three memorable occasions in 2002 and 2003. Gatti, after losing the first fight in a back-and-forth action bout, came back with a more tactical game plan for the second fight, relying on superior technique to win that fight and the subsequent rubber match.
Some expect this fight to feature a little more science and a little less fury than the first meeting too. There is certainly precedent for rematches failing to meet the heightened expectations of the first bout. Even in the greatest rivalries, the second fight has often been a letdown. It was that way for Gatti vs. Ward, and the sequel to Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo I, the greatest fight of the last decade, was a tremendous disappointment.
The seeds were sown for a more tactical fight this weekend as well. Alvarado, who controlled the fight at distance the first time with a stiff jab, may hope to utilize his technique to keep Rios from getting in close.
But, for his part, Rios isn't buying it. To him, you are who you are. And once the bell rings, no matter how technical they may plan on being, he and Alvarado are not scientists. They are warriors who don't know any way but coming forward and throwing heavy leather.
"We have the same type of style. We both go fight each other. We try to get the job done the only way we know how," Rios said. "We can try to change it up in the gym, but once the bell rings and we get hit we go back to doing what we know how to do. That’s the warrior mentality that comes out of us. Mike Alvarado is Mike Alvarado and Brandon Rios is Brandon Rios. We are going to give the fans what they want, and we are going to give them a good show."
Alvarado vs. Rios II will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT. Jonathan Snowden is the author of Shooters, The MMA Encyclopedia and Total MMA. l'Américain Guerrero arrêté pour détention d'arme à feu
