Boschiero wins Italian title
By Enrico “Erik” Crociati
Italian warrior, undefeated Devis Boschiero (27-0, 12 KOs) became the new National 130 lbs champion yesterday night at the Risorgimento Central Square in Avezzano, Italy, after scoring a spectacular ninth round KO over local idol and co-challenger Ivan Fiorletta (24-7-2, 7 KOs). It was a tough and entertaining bout, both fighters gave more than expected and went toe-to-toe without any stop with screaming fans standing on their feet in a ‘Mexican battle’ atmosphere.
The taller Fiorletta, who fought Paul Spadafora last March in Ft. Lauderdale, started the contest at a high pace, tried to establish his jab early on but Boschiero, trained by Gino Freo, one of the best Italian coach, was able to solve matters and close the distance with his better hand speed. Boschiero eventually broke open the close fight in the late rounds, showing a great physical condition and hurt Fiorletta by a vicious uppercut to the chin prompting a stoppage by referee Massimiliano Bianco in the third minute of the round nine. For the always exciting Boschiero, former WBA I/C and EBU EU champ, it was the first National title and who might be ready now for an European title fight.
On the undercard, undefeated welterweight Stefano Castellucci (18-0, 9 KOs) scored a six round decision win over Hungarian journeyman Attila Molnar (18-17-6, 9 KOs) and former national contender Gianpiero Contestabile (16-2, 7 KOs) dominated and outpointed Richard Szelebedi (6-12) over six rounds in a featherweight contest.
Armando De Clemente promoted with Rai Sport Più televising.
