By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight championVitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) says he plans on continuing his boxing career, and will be defending his title next against his mandatory challenger, which will be the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight.
As far Vitali fighting former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s), Vitali says Haye blew his chance when he offered him the fight last September by turning it down.
Vitali said to the bbc.co.uk “He [Haye didn’t take the proposal, and right now if David wants to fight, he has to wait because I have to defend my title against official contender, and after that maybe if David Haye has a high position in the world rankings, we can fight each other, but definitely it will not be soon.”
So there it is. If Haye wants to fight Vitali, which obviously he does, he’s going to have to wait until probably 2014 for the fight to happen. Vitali is likely going to fight once in 2013 against the winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight later on in the year, and if Haye is really lucky he’ll get a fight against Vitali at some point next year as long as someone doesn’t beat Haye in the meantime. Haye plans on fighting in June and October of this year, and anything is possible when that guy fights.
You can’t guarantee that he’ll beat guys like you can with Vitali because Haye is just a pumped up cruiserweight, and doesn’t have the size to walk over guys like Vitali.
Haye just needs to stop talking about Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko altogether, and just try and line himself up to become the mandatory challenger for one of them. It’s obvious that they’re not going to give him a gift title shot without him having to work for it. They want him to prove himself by proving that he deserves another title shot by beating some good fighters to get the fight.
