Synchronise yer watches..... Lenny's Italian Job now scheduled for June 8

After being given the runaround by Italian promoter OPI 2000, Lightning Lenny Daws (25-2-2) will now (hopefully) box Italian Michele Di Rocco (34-1-1) for the vacant European Light Welterweight title on June 8, somewhere in Italy.
Carshalton's Daws has been in preparation since before Di Rocco's promoter won the purse bid (67,717 Euros) on January 11. The promoter was supposed to announce the venue and date fifteen days later, with the fight to take place within 60 days, but after plenty of to-ing and fro-ing, the bout was set for April 27.
Di Rocco pulled out injured, but was cleared to box a few days later. Daws' team was then given a new date of May 18th (next weekend), but this has again been rescheduled. On June 8th, Daws will (fingers crossed) get his long awaited European title shot, and time is running out for Di Rocco.
Despite no venue as yet, one reason to be optimistic about the fight actually taking place this time is that the EBU super middleweight contest between Italy based Senegalese Mohamed Ali Ndiaye and Frenchman Christophe Rebrasse is also down to take place somewhere in the boot shaped country on June 8th. This was originally scheduled for May 24, but, according to reports, OPI 2000 has had difficulties securing television dates, and has decided to put both title fights on the same bill.
Another reason is that the judges and referee have been named by the EBU. The referee will be Manuel Oliver Palomo of Spain, and the appointed judges are Francisco Vazquez Marcos (Spain) Anssi Perajoki (Finland) and Christophe Fernandez (France). Marcos and Perajoki will also be in the judging chair for the super middleweight contest.
Daws' trainer Ian Burbedge told BoxRec News:
"Forget all this getting robbed s**t - I reckon the Italian will melt after eight or nine rounds with Lenny.
"And despite all the on-off nonsense, Lenny is fully focused. He's bang up for this. I fully believe it'll be the best performance of his career so far."
More details on the Anglo-Italian light welterweight battle soon.
