Carl Froch-Mikkel Kessler: 'It's On'

WBC super middleweight (168 pounds) champion, Carl Froch, will defend his crown against Denmark's Mikkel Kessler (pictured above) this Saturday in Denmark as part of group stage No. 2 of Showtime's Super Six World Middleweight Boxing Classic, this, in spite of the ash from the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in Iceland that has hampered air travel throughout Europe.
The 32-year-old Froch (26-0, 25 KOs) will be flown by a private jet into either North Germany or Denmark, according to Monday's release from his promoter, Hennessy Sports, in association with the promoters of the 31-year-old Kessler (42-2, 32 KOs), Team Sauerland, as well as Showtime.
"It's on! Carl Froch will meet Mikkel Kessler in the center of the ring at the sold-out MCH Arena in Denmark this Saturday for their anticipated Group Stage 2 matchup. My hat's off to Team Sauerland and Hennessy Sports for their efforts to keep the event on schedule," said Showtime's Ken Hershman, executive vice president and general manager of sports.
"We have contingency plans in place for our coverage on Showtime, and our viewers are in for yet another crucial and intense super middleweight bout," said Hershman. "The question at this point is not, 'Will the fight happen?,' but, rather, 'What will happen in the fight?'"
